Wow, It's hard to describe what the last two days have been like for our team.
So much has happened. Yesterday, Wednesday, Dec. 3rd, we experience the transition of the Give the Gift of Sight Foundation to One Sight! One Sight is the new Luxottica Group Foundation. It is a family of charitable programs dedicated to improving vision for those in need through outreach, research and education. Think of it as Give the Gift of Sight on steroids if you will. The new program combines three regional programs-Give the Gift of sight, Pearle Vision Foundation and Community I Care-into one new global organization.
This is a really huge deal for Luxottica and all of the program supporters. It's an even bigger deal for our team because we are the last mission team under the 20 year moniker of "Give the Gift of Sight" and also the first mission team under the new "One Sight" program. Yesterday we started the day in our Gift of Sight t-shirts and ended the day wearing One Sight t-shirts.
The One Sight transition was very exciting but we also had other milestones to celebrate.
1) A letter of recognition from Greg Hare, GOS Director, to Senior Octavio, Lions Club President Veracruz, was presented along with an award for his 16 years of supporting GOS. We learned that during just the last 6 years the Lions of Veracruz have hosted 6 clinics and helped 200,000 people. They are so committed to GOS and supporting our team.
2) Our first day of clinic was terrific, we helped 1,686 people with the help of our terrific volunteers for local schools and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. These volunteers worked with us shoulder to shoulder and helped us to connect with our patients on a more personal level.
Today really was the best!

Darlene, The Target Team is so proud to know that you are there making a difference to many people who will experience the gift of sight, for the very first time!
I personally, am wearing a headband in your honor today!
We miss you!
